 Art from the Heart:

Wishing You Were Here

I wish you were here with me
This is the time I need you most
I'm going into Middle School

I know your still with me
I wish you could see me
growing each day
just like you taught me

I'll be 12 soon
I'll be at my first dance
I wish you were here
to see me growing,
more and more

Guide me through my years
help me in bad times,
when I'm lonely,
sad and down

I love you, Dad.

By Ashley Lettsome
In Remembrance of Courtney Lettsome

I Miss You, Sister

Dear Sister,

I really, really miss you I wish you hadn't gone
But in the eyes of the Lord your time was done

On earth you were a beauty a wonder at heart
And as soon as I saw you, I knew from the start

That you were the beautiful, the most beautiful of all
And when I received that horrible call, my heart took a fall

I rushed to get to Wisconsin as fast as I could
If I could have saved you, I know that I would

I wasn't fast enough, the Lord was the One
That thought it was your time, your time to be done

I really, really miss you and I wanted you to stay
But with the Lord in my heart
I will someday have to learn that dying is okay

Always in the eyes of the Lord He knows that they should leave
So when a person dies it truly is hard to believe

So, you've sent a new baby and I must say
It feels too soon for the due date in May

In memory of Isley Makenzie Neal 11-19-03 - 1-10-04

 They Said What???

Most people don't know what to say when someone dies and many times they say the wrong thing. Here are some things the kids at MargaretAnn's Place wish they hadn't heard:

" God needed an angel.
" Your daddy's in a better place.
" You have two other sisters.
" It was for the best.
" You should stop thinking about it.
" I know how you feel - my grandpa/aunt/dog died last year.
" I know how you feel.
" Your mother would want you to be happy.
" You need to be strong.
" Stop crying.
" It's been over six months.
" You need to move on.
" Get over it!
" God has a plan.
" Everything happens for a reason.
" ( ) saying nothing at all

Other Things the Children Wish People Would Say/Do Instead

" Don't ignore the situation or change the subject
" Ask me how I am feeling today.
" Ask me about memories of my dad, mom, brother or sister.
" Help me remember - tell me stories, ask to see pictures.
" Don't compare the death of a person to the death of a pet.
" Don't compare - AT ALL.
" Tell me the truth.
" Try to answer my questions.
" If you don't have an answer - just say, "I don't know."
" Don't ask me a million questions - unless I want you to.
" Invite me to do fun things.
" Stay with me quietly when I am sad or feeling lonesome.
" Remember special/hard days with me - birthdays, Father's/Mother's Day, anniversary of death, holidays.
" Don't watch the calendar to see how fast I am grieving.
" Understand this never goes away.
" Hug me.
